Description
Homeostasis is a tough concept, but so important for Anatomy & Physiology students to learn! In this lab, students will witness feedback loops in action and practice essential scientific skills like making hypotheses, collecting data, and making graphs. Directions for analyzing data in MS Excel or Google Sheets are also included.
Lab Objectives:
- To make hypotheses about the body’s response to cardiovascular and respiratory stimuli
- To measure and record the heart rate and respiratory rate at rest and after exercise
- To examine if exercise influences an individual’s pulse-respiratory quotient
- To record and analyze data collected from the lab
PLEASE NOTE: This resource is part of my Intro to Anatomy & Physiology Unit and my Full Anatomy & Physiology Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- 1 teacher instruction page
- 3 student pages with background information, detailed instructions, and discussion questions
- 1 page for data collection & example student data for absent students
- Answer key
- Digital pages for 1:1 classrooms or students working at home
NOTE: This activity includes an illustration of a feedback loop. If your students have not yet learned about positive and negative feedback mechanisms, they may need additional help with this question. Alternately, you can use my Intro to A&P Unit, which includes this lab and all necessary content for completing it.
