Description
The structure and stimulation of a muscle are tough concepts for high school students. In this anatomy model lab, students research the structures involved and then create a 3-D model to display their knowledge. Teacher and student instructions are included, as well as a grading rubric.
Activity Objectives:
- Part 1: Students become familiar with the microscopic structure of a skeletal muscle through research, then build a 3-D model of a skeletal muscle using provided materials (45 minutes)
- Part 2: Students become familiar with the processes that occur at the neuromuscular junction, then build a 3-D model to show the structures and processes involved in muscle stimulation (90 minutes)
PLEASE NOTE: This resource is part of my Muscular System Unit and my Full Anatomy & Physiology Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- 1 teacher instruction page
- 2 student pages for planning the model and recording research
- 1 rubric for grading models
- 1 feedback page for other students to analyze the accuracy of each model
- Answer key with an example model
- Digital pages for 1:1 classrooms or students working at home
This activity addresses NGSS HS-LS1-2.
