Make classification fun and easy to understand! In this activity, students not only learn to read dichotomous keys, but actually make one of their own. Lab worksheets with answer keys are included.

This lab is very versatile- teachers can use any materials they have on hand: office supplies, fast-food toys, etc.

Students genuinely enjoy this activity and they will have a great grasp of the concept when they are finished. Groups swap keys after making them, and peer-evaluation is used for constructive criticism. This also reduces grading for teachers.

After the lab, students can practice using a pre-made dichotomous key to identify 10 different monsters!
