Description
This human karyotype activity is a memorable addition to any discussion of chromosomes, nondisjunction, or genetics. Students organize chromosomes into a karyotype and identify any genetic disorders. Information is then used to write an opinion essay about the use of amniocentesis to diagnose chromosomal disorders.
Not interested in cutting and pasting chromosomes? No problem! A digital option is available for a quick no-prep version of this activity using Google Slides.
Please note: This activity is also part of my Biology Unit 7: Intro to Genetics and the Full-Year Biology Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- A teacher instruction page with directions for using print or digital versions
- 6 spreads of human chromosomes with and without nondisjunction disorders (sex chromosomes clearly marked for easy identification)
