Description
Enzymes are so difficult for students to visualize- but not anymore! This enzyme lab experiment is simple and inexpensive, allowing students to easily observe the reaction of catalase (from potatoes) by mixing it with hydrogen peroxide.
Please note: This lab is also included in my Full-Year Biology Curriculum and Biology Unit 2: Chemistry of Life.
Students test 4 reactions to determine the effects of acids and temperature on the effectiveness of the catalase:
- Potato + water
- Potato + hydrogen peroxide
- Potato + vinegar + hydrogen peroxide
- Cooked potato + hydrogen peroxide
