Description
Rather than using molar mass worksheets, why not have students see mole conversions in real life? In this hands-on activity, students measure the mass of several household substances, then use the chemical formula to calculate the moles and/or particles in each substance.
This lab is also part of my Full Chemistry Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- Teacher instructions & materials list (see preview for necessary materials)
- Student instructions for measuring each substance
- Lab worksheet for recording masses and showing conversion calculations
- Detailed answer keys with calculation work
*For a detailed view of all the pages included in this resource, please check out the preview.

*This activity provides good practice for molar conversions, but if you’d like more explanation in the form of presentations, guided notes, and review pages, you may want to purchase the Unit 6- The Mole unit instead. It includes this activity, as well.
Topics: chemical formulas, measuring mass, molar mass, mass-to-mole conversions, moles-to-particles conversions
*Stoichiometry is not included in this lab.
