Description
The stations in this symbiosis activity help students to review symbiotic relationships like mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. The highly visual, no-prep format makes this activity a quick addition to any ecology unit. Thought-provoking questions and a student worksheet for recording answers are included.
Please note: This activity is also part of my Biology Unit 12: Environmental Stability and the Full-Year Biology Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- A teacher page with instructions for set up and teaching tips
- 8 station cards with photos and examples of mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism. Critical thinking questions are included for each station.
- A student worksheet for recording answers
- Answer key
Note: This activity is meant to synthesize topics addressed during the full year of Biology. If your students have not yet covered photosynthesis, food chains, adaptations, coevolution, invasive species, or population growth, they may struggle with some of the critical thinking questions.
Organism examples include: clownfish & anemone, Spanish moss & oak trees, goby fish & alpheid shrimp, hornworm caterpillars & braconid wasps, burs & white-tailed deer, cattle egrets & cattle, barnacles & gray whales, acacia trees & ants
Topics include: mutualism, parasitism, commensalism, climate change, photosynthesis, coevolution, food chains, adaptations, invasive species, R and K specialists
