Description
This cell membrane 3D model activity will really make your Biology students think! They’ll act just like scientists to determine the structure of the cell membrane by drawing conclusions from historical scientific experiments. Vocabulary links the fluid mosaic model to previous knowledge of macromolecules like carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and enzymes.
Please note: This activity is also part of my Unit 3: Cell Structures & Processes and the Full-Year Biology Curriculum.
Included in this resource:
- A teacher instruction page with materials list and example photographs
- 3-page student worksheet with instructions and critical-thinking questions
- Answer keys
Vocabulary addressed in this activity:
selective permeability, fluid mosaic model, polar, nonpolar, phospholipid, hydrophilic, hydrophobic, integral transmembrane proteins, peripheral proteins, glycoproteins, flippase (enzyme)
