Description
Bring chemical reactions to life with these hands-on experiments! Your students can truly observe and understand the types of chemical reactions. In six different stations, students use real-world science skills while observing synthesis, combustion, single-replacement, and double-replacement reactions. They record evidence of the reaction such as formation of a gas or precipitate, heat production, or color changes.
This lab is also part of Unit 7- Chemical Reactions and the Full Chemistry Curriculum, which include guided Cornell notes, presentations, labs, activities, and assessments in addition to this lab.
Included in this resource:
- Teacher instructions & materials list (see preview for necessary materials)
- 6 station cards with detailed instructions for completing each chemical reaction
- Student worksheets for recording observations, writing and balancing equations, and categorizing the type of reaction (separate honors & college-prep worksheets included)
- Answer keys

*This activity requires previous knowledge of the types of chemical reactions. If your students don’t have a solid foundation yet, you may want to consider purchasing the Unit 7 – Chemical Reactions unit instead. It includes this activity, along with PowerPoint slides, guided notes, practice pages, and assessments.
Topics: types of chemical reactions (synthesis, combustion, double-replacement, single-replacement), evidence of chemical reactions, writing and balancing equations, predicting products
(Note: A decomposition reaction is not included in this resource, but can be found within my Unit 8- Stoichiometry.)
